IP whitelisting is a type of security measure that is used to restrict unauthorized access to your RunCloud account. With the help of IP Whitelisting, businesses can give access to the tools and software to specific IP addresses they consider trustworthy.

IP whitelisting works by creating a list of approved IP addresses that can access a network, system, or service. Any IP address that is not on the list will be denied access or require further verification. This way, IP whitelisting can reduce the risk of online threats and attacks by limiting the exposure of sensitive data or systems to only trusted users or devices.

However, IP whitelisting is not a silver bullet. Before enabling it you should keep in mind that:

  • It can be time-consuming and inconvenient for administrators and users to maintain and update the list of approved IP addresses.
  • It can cause compatibility issues with dynamic IP addresses, VPNs, or cloud services that may change the IP addresses frequently.

Enabling IP White Listing

Here are the step by step instructions for IP Whitelisting:

  1. Log in to your RunCloud account and go to the Settings page.
  2. On the Settings page, you will see a section called IP Whitelisting. This feature allows you to restrict access to your account from only certain IP addresses.
  3. To enable IP Whitelisting, turn on the switch next to it. You will see a list of IP addresses that have been used to log in to your account. These IP addresses are whitelisted by default.

Adding an IP Address to the Whitelist

When you log in from a new IP address, you will see a message on the screen that says “We have sent an email to your registered email address. Please check your email and follow the instructions to verify your IP address.”

You will receive an email from RunCloud to verify your IP address. The email will contain a link that you need to click to approve the new IP address.

Once you click on the link, your IP address will be added to the whitelist and you can then log in normally with your username and password.

Disabling IP Whitelisting

If you want to disable IP Whitelisting, you can do so by following these steps:

  • Go to the Settings page and find the IP Whitelisting section.
  • Turn off the switch next to IP Whitelisting. You will see a pop-up window that asks you to confirm your action. Click on the “Yes” button to proceed

Once you disable IP Whitelisting, you will be able to log in from any IP address without verification. However, this will also reduce the security of your account and expose it to potential unauthorized access. Therefore, you should only disable IP Whitelisting if you are sure that you don’t need it.
