Whether you’re moving your website to a different cloud provider, or transferring it to an on-premises server, RunCloud has got you covered. The process of moving a website from one server to another can be quite a hassle, but with RunCloud, you can do it with just a few clicks.

Step 1: Create a Clone of Your Existing Application

To move your site to a different server, you will first need to clone it. Go to your RunCloud dashboard and select the application that you want to clone, and then click on the “Cloning” button in the sidebar.

On the clone application page, you will need to provide a name for your new application, and select the server that you want to clone your application to. Make sure to select the server that you want to move your site to.

Next, check the “Clone database” button and select the database used by this application. You also need to specify the domain name for the application – you can use the existing domain name used by the current site, or specify a new one.

Step 2: Update DNS Records

Once you have cloned your application to the new server, you will need to update your DNS records to point to the new server. This step is critical to ensure that your site continues to function correctly after the move.

To update your DNS records, you will need to log in to your domain registrar or DNS provider’s website and make the necessary changes. Typically, you will need to update your A record to point to the IP address of your new server. If you are using RunCloud’s Cloudflare integration to manage your DNS, you can do this without ever leaving RunCloud dashboard.

Note that it may take some time for your DNS changes to propagate, so be patient and wait for the changes to take effect before proceeding to the next step. Read our article on How To Speed Up DNS Propagation for more details.

Step 3: Test Your Site on the New Server

Before you delete the old application and make the final switch to the new server, it’s a good idea to test your site to make sure everything is working correctly. You can access your site on the new server by entering the URL of your application into your browser’s address bar.

Make sure to test all aspects of your site, including pages, forms, and any plugins or integrations that you may have installed. We recommend keeping a close eye on Application Logs in RunCloud for at least a day or two. Once you are satisfied, you can safely delete your old application.
