RunCloud supports LiteSpeed Enterprise web servers, allowing you to configure and deploy a new LiteSpeed Enterprise server through the RunCloud dashboard.

This integration uses a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model, allowing you to use an eligible LiteSpeed Enterprise license when deploying a server through RunCloud.

Prerequisites

If you don’t have a license yet, then you can visit the LiteSpeed website to request a Free Starter license.

You can use the LiteSpeed Free Starter license only on a server with no more than 2GB of RAM. If the server has more than 2GB of RAM installed, the Free Starter license will not activate.

These restrictions are strictly enforced by LiteSpeed Technologies and are not determined by RunCloud.

If you require more RAM, more domains, or additional workers, you must upgrade your license through the LiteSpeed Customer Portal. Alternatively, you can choose another supported web stack, such as OpenLiteSpeed, NGINX, or Docker, which does not impose the same LiteSpeed license-based RAM, domain, or worker limits.

Note: You must deploy LiteSpeed Enterprise on a new server. RunCloud cannot convert an existing RunCloud-managed NGINX, OpenLiteSpeed, or Docker server to LiteSpeed Enterprise.

How to Deploy a LiteSpeed Enterprise Server

Deploying a fresh LiteSpeed Enterprise server on your own server is quick and simple with RunCloud.

  1. Log in to your RunCloud dashboard and click “Connect a New Server”
  2. On the next screen, select the cloud server provider that you want to use.
  3. Review the server configuration options and change them where needed, or leave the default settings selected.

You can now connect to the server via a supported cloud provider integration, or manually by running the RunCloud installation script. Read our documentation on how to manually connect a VPS from any cloud provider or connect an on-premises server to RunCloud

Managing Your LiteSpeed License

After your server is live, you can view your LiteSpeed license status and update the license key from your server settings.

Viewing License Status

To check your current license status, navigate to Settings > LiteSpeed in your server dashboard.

You will see:

  • License Validity: Current status of your license.
  • Package: Your assigned plan (e.g., Free Starter).
  • Domain Limit: How many domains are currently in use versus your plan’s limit.
  • Expiry Date: When your current license is set to expire.

Updating Your License Key

If you need to upgrade your plan or change your license:

  1. Paste the new license key into the License Key field.
  2. Click Update License Key.

RunCloud will then attempt to register the new key with the LiteSpeed licensing servers.

Releasing Your LiteSpeed License

If you need to migrate your license to a different server or deactivate it, you must first release it from your account. Follow the steps below to release your license from the LiteSpeed dashboard.

Note: Releasing the license immediately invalidates the current license key and allows it to be installed on another server. Do not release the license until you are ready to stop using LiteSpeed Enterprise on the current server.

  1. Log in to the LiteSpeed Customer Portal.
  2. Navigate to Services > My Services.
  1. Open the LiteSpeed Enterprise service that you want to move.
  2. Click Unlock to remove the license lock from the current server’s IP address.
  3. When you are ready to stop using the current server, click Release License.

Frequently Asked Questions

I get a “License Key Invalid” or “Connection Refused” error. What should I do?

First, double-check that your license key was pasted correctly, with no leading or trailing spaces. If the key is correct, verify that your server’s IP address matches the one registered in the LiteSpeed Customer Portal. Also, make sure your server can connect to LiteSpeed’s licensing servers.
LiteSpeed licenses are IP-bound; if you migrated your server or changed its IP address, you must update the registered IP address in the LiteSpeed Customer Portal.

I want to use more than 2GB of RAM. What are my options?

If your application requires more than 2GB of RAM, you have two options:
Upgrade your License: Purchase a paid LiteSpeed Enterprise license that supports higher RAM limits via the LiteSpeed store.
Switch Web Stacks: If you do not require LiteSpeed Enterprise features, you can deploy a new server with OpenLiteSpeed, NGINX, or Docker through the RunCloud dashboard. These stacks do not impose the same LiteSpeed license-based RAM, domain, or worker limits.

Can I change my license key after deployment?

Yes. You do not need to redeploy your server. Simply navigate to your server settings in RunCloud, locate the LiteSpeed Enterprise section, and click Update License Key. Once you save the new key, the system will attempt to register it with the LiteSpeed servers.
